Forestry Advice

Teagasc provides integrated forestry advice and training to landowners, with or considering a forest enterprise. The advice and training services include:

• Consultation on integrating a forestry enterprise into the farm
• Short practical training courses on forest establishment
• Field evenings and training on management and thinning farm forests
• Facilitation of Forest Owner groups
• National forestry events
• A range of promotional activities through the mass media
• Certification of 'farmer' status for forest premium and TF1 applications (for further information, contact your local Teagasc office)

A total of 9 forestry development officers, backed up by a forestry specialist, forestry research, education and agricultural advisory staff, provide a nationwide service.

Teagasc, in conjunction with the Forest Service, provides field days and short forestry courses on all aspects of forestry in every county for those who are contemplating a forest enterprise or who have already planted. A range of skill courses such as vegetation control, shaping of broadleaves and high pruning are also available. All courses are delivered to FETAC standard.
