Pro Silva is a European federation of foresters and forest owners who advocate management based on natural processes. Pro Silva was founded in Slovenia in 1989 and now has 27 member countries. Pro Silva Ireland (PSI) was launched in 2000 and currently has just over 100 members.
PSI hold two educational forest trips in Ireland each year. Highly skilled and experienced European foresters come to our home events to share their knowledge. PSI also organize one 'away' trip each year to visit forests managed using natural processes. All welcome. See website for details.

The RDS – Forest Service Irish Forestry Awards
The awards recognize and reward farmers who are employing the basic principles of sustainable forest management on their properties; environmental protection; bio diversity; and social amenity. They promote the forestry industry of Ireland.
The awards are the only national awards of their kind and are open to the whole island of Ireland
The scheme comprises the following categories:
- Farm Forestry
- Bio-Diverse Forests/Woodlands
- The winner of each category will receive a medallion and a perpetual trophy
- Judges also present certificates of merit in each category

The Society of Irish Foresters, founded in 1942, is the representative body for the forestry profession in Ireland. The Society promotes forestry and the forestry profession through the organisation of field days, study tours, seminars, workshops and other events for its members and the public and through its publications, including the twice yearly ‘Irish Forestry’.
