Coillte plays a key role in delivering biomass energy solutions to industries across Ireland. Biomass is a renewable and carbon-efficient source of energy which helps to mitigate against climate change. Coillte provides and ensures security of supply through our operation of a number of regional biomass fuel supply hubs throughout the country.
Coillte is at the forefront of the effort to help Ireland meet its binding national commitments on combatting climate change and de-carbonising the Irish economy through developing successful renewable energy projects on our lands. Coillte act to underpin this delivery by developing a portfolio of renewable energy projects, including wind energy, through partnerships and by making suitable lands available while protecting the productive capacity of our forest estate.
Coillte sell firewood, depending on availability, through our network of Harvesting Managers who operate throughout the country. The minimum amount of firewood that Coillte sell is a lorry load (approx. 30 cubic meters). It is sold on a delivered in basis. The delivery location must allow for safe entry, offloading and exit of lorries. It comes in lengths ranging in diameter from a minimum of 7cm up to a maximum of approximately 35cm. These logs will need to processed further to convert to blocks of firewood. It is usually unseasoned.
